Patisserie Valerie – Create a Cake

Patisserie Valerie - Create a cake

The clever team behind Patisserie Valerie have developed an online create a cake tool that allows you to design your own celebration cake that can be in your hands 48 hours after placing your order. This user friendly tool is really simple to navigate and as you create your cake, a graphic of your design appears alongside your order.

This means you can tweak your design, try different flavours and style combinations before settling on your final design. The create a cake tool lets you select the flavour of sponge cake, the cream layers, side decoration, topping and fruit filling, all of this can be finished off with a neat bow and if you like, a message on top of the cake.

Here you can see the order I placed, the image of the cake was so similar to the one that arrived, I was pretty impressed. If you’re unsure as to what any of the fillings are, there is a glossary which explains all the different types of creams and decorations.

So I opted for the Habana topping, partly because I didn’t know what it was and partly because the word Habana made me think of Barry Manilow and I thought it would be a fun topping!

Habana is a mix of chocolate cups filled with different flavoured creams and finished with fresh fruit.

Although the cake looked stunning, I was desperate to cut into it and see what the layers looked like and to be honest to see what it tasted like. I ordered a cake with a dark chocolate decoration around the outside and I was worried about how I was going to cut this cake neatly. The chocolate cuff however was not made from tempered chocolate, as I thought it would be, but from a fudge-like thick icing, this meant the cake was very easy to cut into. As you can see from the photo, the habana topping started to fall off the cake as the cups are a bit too heavy for the cream to support. However I don’t think that really matters, as it’s not going to be on the plate long before it’s eaten.

The Patisserie Valerie Create a Cake tool is really useful and great for creating a celebration cake. I don’t think I would get this particular combination again as I really didn’t enjoy the sabayon cream in the habana cups and I found the Crème St Honore artificially sweet. I would stick to lighter cream options and more fresh fruit, as the fruit used was delicious, but I found the overall taste a little too sweet for me.

These cakes don’t come cheap at £25.00 each, however you can see that a lot of work has gone into the creation of these cakes and although the recommended servings is 6, you could easily serve 8 people with this cake.

What a brilliant idea! And the cake is gorgeous! I’m impressed too that your actual cake had almost the same look as the graphic. I can see how you would easily serve 8, it looks a bit heavy and filling.

This looks amazing! I’ve never tried a proper patisserie valerie cake, I love the idea of being able to create a personalised cake for someone though as it looks so much better than anything I think I could ever dream of making myself x
